Terms & Conditions

1. Scope of Work

All conservation and restoration work is carried out in accordance with heritage conservation principles. Work is limited to mechanical clocks (pre-1930), and excludes watches, chronometers, Atmos clocks, "insubstantially constructed mass-produced" clocks or novelty timepieces (including "cuckoo" clocks).

2. Estimates and Pricing

A written estimate will be provided before any work begins.

  • Hourly rate: £60

  • Call-out fee (within 50 miles of Chippenham): £60, which includes travel and first hour on-site

  • Additional travel: £2 per mile beyond 50 miles (if accepted)

  • Further time on-site: £60 per hour

Prices are reviewed annually on Lady Day (25 March).

Price "banding" on estimate limits cost - unless subsequently amended in agreement with the customer.

3. Payment Terms

Payment is due in full upon completion and return of the object.
No credit is offered. Work will not be returned until payment is received (“No cash, no clock”).
For institutional clients with fixed payment cycles, arrangements can be made in advance - but delays in payment may affect future availability.

The proprietor reserves the right to sell any object, which is not paid for, after 90 days - in order to recover costs and monies owing.

4. Delivery

Delivery of items is handled personally and is included within the quoted fee. Objects are transported using appropriate materials and methods to ensure safety.

5. Storage

Completed items must be accepted for return within 14 days of completion unless otherwise agreed. A storage fee may apply thereafter.

6. Liability

While all reasonable care is taken, clients accept that conservation of historic objects carries inherent risks. All work is undertaken with due diligence and professional care, but the proprietor cannot accept liability for failure of materials due to pre-existing age, wear, or instability.

7. Cancellation

Once work has commenced, cancellation may incur a charge based on time and materials already committed.
